The Midi-Pyrenées encompasses  the mountainous area of the Pyrenées along the border between France and Spain.  The region is made up of 8 departments:  Ariege, (Dept 9), Aveyron (Dept 12), Haute Garonne (Dept 31), Gers (Dept 32), Lot (Dept 46), Hautes Pyrenées (Dept 65), Tarn (Dept 81) and Tarn et Garonne (Dept 82).

The capital of the Midi-Pyrenees region is Toulouse, the attractive red-brick city to the north of the region and runs  northwards into  remote areas from the Pyrenées mountains - through Gers (Gascony) and into the Department of the Lot . Visitors can either visit the region for the mountains of the south, the tranquil attractions of the Gers (Gascony) region in the centre of the region or the beautiful countryside and history of the north.
